August 22nd, 1851 - the British Royal Yacht Squadron that were racing 14 boats challenged the New York Yacht Club and the 'America' schooner to a race around the Isle of Wight off the Southern Coast of England.

The 'America' won with an eight minute lead over the second place yacht at the British Aurora. Winning that cup that had been held to celebrate London's first 'Universal Show', led to the start of the winners cup that was called the 'Hundred Guineas Gup'.
